Energy Auditing and Off-Grid Solar PV System Designing
The premises were supplied through a 100 kVA utility connection, with the machinery and associated electrical loads primarily operated using grid-supplied power. As the client was unable to obtain the required clearance from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for a conventional grid-tied solar PV system, an alternative off-grid solar energy solution was proposed to reduce grid dependency and optimize energy costs. A comprehensive assessment of the electrical load profile was conducted by monitoring, logging, and analysing the energy consumption patterns of the premises. The collected data was evaluated to determine the operating characteristics and energy requirements of the facility, providing the basis for developing a suitably sized off-grid system. Based on the assessment, a detailed technical report and design drawings were prepared, together with recommendations tailored to the client’s operational requirements. The proposed system configuration included the recommended inverter capacity, solar PV module capacity, and battery energy storage capacity required to support the facility’s loads. The proposed solar PV and battery energy storage solution was designed to reduce reliance on the utility grid, optimize renewable energy utilization, and minimize the client’s electricity expenditure while providing a reliable alternative energy supply for the premises.
