Solar powered VFD system for Irrigation land

The client required a customized solution to operate the existing induction motors used for solar-powered irrigation at a remote location where reliable grid power was not readily available. Following an assessment of the existing pumping requirements, a dedicated solar Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) system was proposed to enable direct operation of the water pumps using solar PV energy. The system was specifically designed as a batteryless solar pumping solution, eliminating the need for costly battery energy storage. Solar PV arrays were integrated with VFDs capable of dynamically controlling the motor speed in response to the available solar power and operating conditions. By adjusting the motor frequency and RPM according to the available solar irradiance, the system could efficiently utilize the available solar energy while maintaining stable and optimized pump operation. The complete solar VFD panel and associated PV system were engineered, designed, and fabricated to suit the existing induction motors and pumping requirements. The system was successfully tested, commissioned, and handed over to the client as a reliable off-grid irrigation solution, enabling the water pumps to operate using solar energy without dependence on conventional grid power or battery storage.
